The natural world, paired with my own emotions and aesthetic preferences provides much of my inspiration. Some things, like the "monster" paintings are born of my Vonnegut-ian sense of humor and whimsy. Others, like the historical series I am just starting, are based on texts from my college days.
At times, I turn to Literature or Music for help...
When working, I like to listen to: CocoRosie, My Brightest Diamond, Matson Jones, the soundtrack to _Amelié_, Goldfrapp, and Mr. Tom Waits.
For inspiration, I read: anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Earnest Hemingway, or Virginia Woolfe. Charlotte Delbo's _Aschuwitz and After_ and Dee Brown's _I Buried My Heart at Wounded Knee_ provide imagery and the proper emotional state for more compelling and serious work.
